TEHRAN -- Foreign Ministry spokesman Hassan Qashqavi said on Wednesday that the remarks by his French counterpart about Clotilde Reiss - a French academic charged of espionage in Iran - is “illogical”.

University teaching assistant Reiss was arrested on charges of spying in Iran following the post-election unrest and was freed on bail from the Evin prison late Sunday and transferred to the French embassy to await a verdict, after appearing in a trial on August 8.
""This release on bail is just a first step,"" French Foreign Ministry spokesman Romain Nadal told a news conference, repeating demands that her case, and that against a Franco-Iranian embassy worker, be thrown out.
""We demand that the legal proceedings against Clotilde Reiss and Nazak Afshar, which nothing can justify, are dropped as soon as possible,"" he said.
Qashqavi said that French officials are trying to portray the arrest of Reiss as a political reaction from Iran and that is “illogical”.
Iran was well-intentioned when issued a visa for Reiss to teach French language at one of Iranian universities but she attended the “illegal rallies” during post-election unrest in Iran and collected information for the French embassy in Tehran, he explained.
Besides the “unassailable” evidences, she unequivocally confessed to her offences in legal proceedings and apologized to Iranian nation for what she did, the spokesman added.
He said unfortunately the French officials, including its Foreign Ministry, have reflected the realities conversely
